Up on the pulpit

Up on the pulpit.

I don’t understand something…perhaps it’s because I’m not a parent.  The media is quick to point out that some people connecting websites such as my space/blogger is supposed to be protecting our children from online predators.  I don’t mean to callus towards the teens that have died as a result from meeting with online acquaintances but it’s a bit their fault and their parent’s fault as well.  The parents should have spoken to their children about the dangers of strangers in person and online….geese do you really wanna hang out in a sausage-rich chat room?  Sure the anonymity is great when you talk about personal issues you’re in to (use your imagination) but you don’t give out your name and information.  You shouldn’t reveal any information about yourself that someone else can use to track you down like your picture in your cheerleading uniform.

“Hmm COLTS…they go to Logan.”

Again this is another issue of absentee parenting….if you have kids do right for them!
People expect teachers to raise their kids…teach them to study, instill the importance of education and not to use drugs.  Shit talk to your kids about sex…you know the important stuff about sex besides STDs.  Talk to them about hygiene and grooming.  A dirty scrotum = no blow.

You don’t want to be that parent in a heard of wildebeests that has their kid picked off by a lion.  Learn how to use the computer so your kids can’t circumvent your instructions or parental computer controls.  I’m sure AOL will have a field day appealing to the heart strings of parents everywhere that they need AOL products to safeguard their kids.

That really grinds my gears for all you Family Guy fans.

Off the pulpit.

Sometimes, it's easier for people to blame others for theirs or their child's mistakes than it is to take responsibility for their lack of parenting. For this reason, there are a lot of people who shouldn't breed. On the other hand, you can only guide your children so much before they start rebelling against you. I think the key is to be consistent and proactive and instill proper values at a young age, before they are exposed to all the hell the world has to offer. Teach them self-worth and honor their autonomy, so that they don't need to look to others for validation. But easier said than done, right? Parenting is one scary and unpredictable job.

Exactly I feel the same way. Yes parenting is one of demons are fear the most. It's one thing to F Up your life but to F%^^ someone else is a moral crime. I think just talking to your children and gently reminding them that many decisions have good and bad ramifications.
